SILKWAY

World cultures have always fascinated me so I got inspired from there.  Since I did not want to be tied to a single culture, I preferred the legendary and miraculous silk road as a theme, which provides interaction between almost all the cultures of the world. Silk road is a history that comes till now. It brings east to west and west to east. We can say that Silk Road changed the world: Just think about it, what if printing press didn’t move and stayed in China? Today, we wouldn’t know Mollière, Kafka, Michelangelo, Charles Dickens… and they wouldn’t know our Nazım Hikmet, Yaşar Kemal, Abidin Dino.. So my aim is modernize this 600 years of culture and bring it to today. On my moodboard you see the terracotta warriors crossing the road, on the modern china street. The road is covered with an Anatolian carpet. And at the back you see a camel, the indispensable animal of the silk road. I tried to show tradition, through a modern lens. Mongols, a society that conquered the Silk Road and even the whole world at one time in history. And the Chinese are the only civilization that has defeated the Mongols. That’s why you’ll see more touches from these two strong societies in my collection. Big collars, imposing big shoulders, emphasis on waist, long sleeves, a combination of denim, wool and a little bit of fur. In conclusion, with my collection, eastern and western cultures collide, i aim to fuse history into the limitless imagination of the future. Dünya kültürleri beni her zaman büyülemiştir bu yüzden ilhamımı oradan aldım. Tek bir kültüre bağlı kalmak istemediğim için tema olarak dünyanın hemen hemen bütün kültürleri arasında etkileşimi sağlayan efsanevi İpek Yolu’nu tercih ettim.İpek yolu bugüne kadar gelen bir tarihtir. Doğuyu batıya, batıyı doğuya taşır. Kültürler arası etkileşimi sağlar. İpek Yolu’nun dünyayı değiştirdiğini söyleyebiliriz. Bir düşünün, ya matbaa İpek Yolu sayesinde taşınmasaydı ve Çin’de kalsaydı? Bugün Mollière’i, Kafka’yı, Michelangelo’yu, Charles Dickens’ı bilmiyor olacaktık… Ve onlar da bizim Yaşar Kemal’imizi, Nazım Hikmet’imizi, Abidin Dino’muzu tanımıyor olacaklardı. Bu koleksiyonda hedefim bu 600 yıllık kültürü modernize ederek bugüne taşımak.
